This course aims to introduce students to fundamental media concepts, examine mainstream and alternative media concepts and examples, and discuss the differences between these concepts. Following the introduction to basic concepts, students will analyze news texts, write their own news texts, and conduct a critical media literacy exercise.
The next stage aims to discuss the relationship between art and media, specifically alternative media. Students will examine, with examples, how social media and alternative media open up spaces for art production and what opportunities artistic production offers for self-expression in these spaces. At the end of the course, each student will create and share a small project proposal that brings together alternative media and art.
