What is the unconscious? Are we born with our personality, or do we learn it? Do we really use only 10% of our brain? Why do we get along (or not) with certain people, and why does Freud think everything comes back to childhood? In this introduction to psychology, we’ll discuss these questions and more. Topics include neuroscience, developmental psychology, personality theories, psychopathology, psychotherapy techniques, and community psychology. Together, we’ll uncover how we shape—and are shaped by—our personality, identity, behaviors, dreams, anxieties, and aspirations. The course is designed to help you gain both scientific knowledge and personal growth by following an introductory psychology university curriculum, complemented by small in-class activities that encourage active learning and internalization of key concepts. By the end of the course, those who stay curious and engaged might just unlock some mysteries of the mind—or at least understand a lot more about how minds work!
